When the Council on Chemical Abuse of Berks County came to us, we were more than happy to help! As a topic that is near and dear to our hearts, we jumped on the opportunity to redesign a website that’s primary function is to HELP people living with addiction.
The first thing we tackled was the organization. Not only is there an infinite amount of information, but that information needs to be accessible to a variety of different people: people in active addiction, families, educators, providers. Part of our process is to look through the eyes of each type of visitor to the website. We also created a Spanish landing page, as there is a large part of the population in Berks County that speaks Spanish.
Most importantly, in the field of addiction, it is getting immediate help in case of emergency. Through the hierarchy, on the page, you can easily find the Get Help Now button. There are also calls to actions for FREE Narcan and medication drop boxes.
After sorting through the information and creating a sitemap that has an effective flow for any kind of visitor, our next task was to make the overwhelming amount of information inviting. Through imagery, layout, and assessments, we were able to get the information in front of the correct eyes. The assessments allow a visitor to the site to answer simple questions that, on the backend, filter through the site to supply the reader with exactly what they need.
Aside from the factual information that is so important, equally important are the stories from people on the other side of addiction and the events and classes that are available for people searching for community. Through custom post types on the backend, it is now easy to find a blog post, personal story or event near you! The events calendar makes it simple to find a class or event as well as register and find directions.
