hang on, it's coming...

Pixel & Hammer is proud to unveil our third major collaboration with the Dauphin County Parks & Recreation Department—this time for the stunning and serene Detweiler Park. Building on the momentum of our previous work with Wildwood Park and Fort Hunter Park & Mansion, the Detweiler Park project allowed us to take things a step further—not only redesigning the park’s website, but also helping shape its visual identity and brand from the ground up.

A Full-Scope Collaboration in Conservation

This wasn’t just a website. It was a partnership in storytelling, design, and strategy. Working hand-in-hand with the Detweiler Park team, we created a full branding suite including:

  • A custom Detweiler Park logo
  • A visual identity for the “Friends of Detweiler Park” fundraising initiative
  • Brand colors, typography, and imagery guidelines to support future growth

From there, we brought everything together with a custom-designed website that captures the history, mission, and natural wonder of this 400-acre public sanctuary.

What We Delivered

Custom WordPress Design + Development

Built on a fully tailored WordPress theme, the new Detweiler Park website is not only beautiful—it’s easy to manage. The site features custom backend fields and modules, giving the Parks & Rec team the tools they need to update events, maps, park news, and more.

Immersive Visual Storytelling

With rich nature photography, user-friendly design, and vibrant branding, the site brings Detweiler Park’s landscapes to life online. Visitors can explore trail maps, learn about the park’s ecological features, and read up on its powerful conservation history—all with just a few clicks.

Flexible Structure for Long-Term Use

We built the site to grow with the park. From StoryWalk® pages and interactive educational content to future donation tools and event calendars, the platform is ready for community-driven expansion and public engagement.

A Park Rooted in Legacy—and Growing Toward the Future

Originally the estate of General Edward J. Stackpole Jr., later nurtured by the Detweiler family, the land was gifted to the county in 2016 with the intent of preserving its natural beauty for public use. The park officially opened in 2017, and the newly launched website serves as both a digital archive of that history and a modern hub for all things Detweiler.

The new site makes it easy for visitors to:

  • Explore 7+ miles of trails
  • Join the Friends of Detweiler Park
  • Read about the park’s long-term Master Plan
  • Plan their visit with parking, hours, and trail rules
  • Engage with rotating educational features like the StoryWalk®
